Position: Half-Time faculty position in Time-Based Media / Electronic Media, beginning fall semester of 2010.
Roberts Wesleyan College currently has 80 undergraduate students majoring in the visual arts. The Division of Visual Arts faculty (four full-time, three part-time) are intent on becoming a Department of Distinction, and recognize the necessity and challenges of remaining current with technology in the professional sector, particularly in electronic media. Thus, we are seeking candidates for a half-time position in electronic media (time-based media) who wish to remain self-employed or in professional positions within this media. The successful candidate will join full-time graphic design faculty to teach motion graphics, web design, and digital imaging.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will hold a Master of Fine Arts in Computer Graphics or Design, Electronic, Digital, or Interactive Media, Digital Media Arts, or other directly related field. Working knowledge of digital video, still cameras, and Macintosh operating systems is required. The candidate should demonstrate proficiency in new media, video, web, and digital imaging software such as Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, After Effects, Director, Flash, etc., and should be a practicing professional artist with a willingness to become an integral member of a small intense program that promotes relationship-based instruction. Candidates who can demonstrate a synthesis of media scholarship with multimedia practice are preferred. The ideal candidate will provide evidence of a comprehensive portfolio in electronic and traditional studios as well as the ability to instruct both in the studio and lecture-classroom, with a strong desire to discuss and explore the visual arts in a cross-disciplinary approach.
Responsibilities:
Studio and lecture-classroom instructional responsibilities will focus primarily on digital video, motion graphics, kinetic typography, digital imaging, and interactive design, including instruction in Foundations-Electronic Media courses. The curriculum will be supplemented with specialist adjunct faculty.
